Sister Malandra's story to tell
Upon meeting Sister Malandra at the Eidonite monastery, Anast shared enough of his own story to win her trust, at which point she explained that she too had been unmade by the castings of Lyshkara, but whereas Anast was destroyed, she described herself as having been reborn.
Sister Malandra explained that she had once commanded legions of the Kingdom of Shadows, that she had supped at the table of Primogen, that she had looked upon the Umbral Throne, and that it was her forces that stormed through the gates of Kittering’s Redoubt the day the Taint fell from the skies. But in that doorway, she met Tully Dawnbringer, and she – Anros, Primogen of the Kingdom of Shadows – had been unmade by the lux aeternum, that Tully had dragged her soul into the light of heaven, and let its brilliance (she called it “a sea of Light”) burn away the evil in her soul, and she took her first breath in 2100 years.
She told Anast that the Light does not strive against the darkness and defeat it. The Light simply burns it away – taking the darkness into itself it unmakes it. Darkness is not defeated, but undone, and only Light remains. She then told him to ask his more pointed questions of the abbot of their order, a man called Childe Luvir.
